Mediation Case 1:
Couple came to Calm Interventions, Inc. in need of a trial separation. By going immediately to attorneys, separation could have necessitated a multi-thousand dollar retainer, and the beginning of a process that would have been lengthy and adversarial. The key issue centered on who would leave the marital home, and under what circumstance. In the course of a one or two sessions Jon mediated a separation agreement based on mutual respect that allowed the couple to separate. Under the agreement the couple agreed to rotate in six month blocks residing in the apartment and marital home, and to consider issues of reconciliation and divorce during that time period. The couple was able to accomplish a simple separation for much less in approximately one week, without acrimony, that otherwise could have cost thousands and thousands of dollars and been very contentious.
Mediation Case 2:
A couple came to Calm Interventions, post-divorce. They had a very acrimonious relationship for nearly nine years. Couple approached Calm Interventions after failures with mediators, lawyers, and Judges. The issue presented to Calm Interventions, Inc. was a transportation issue for their seventeen year-old special needs son. The couple would not talk to each other prior to the mediation. After an extensive period of mediation, Jon achieved a breakthrough with the Mother and the Father to come up with a cost-sharing plan for the transportation. The couple ended up having lunch with each other, after years of not talking. The comment was made, that: “we achieved a breakthrough with you, after nine years that judges, lawyers, and other mediators could not do.”
Divorce Coaching Case 3:
One parent of two children in a divorce/ custody proceeding was intimidating children by showing the children court documents that the other parent had submitted, and putting the documents in the face of the children, and saying: “Did you say this, did you say that..” One parent came to Calm Interventions on a coaching basis, and asked for assistance in developing a strategy to prevent the other parent from intimidating the Children by inappropriately showing the children court documents, and further intimidating them with statements that were made. Calm Interventions worked with one parent to emotionally prepare to go before the Judge. Presentation was made successfully, and Judge’s ruling affirmed that no court documents can be shown to children.
